We are thrilled to share that the World Health Assembly has unanimously adopted a landmark resolution, officially recognising skin diseases—including scabies—as a global public health priority. This pivotal decision marks a significant step forward in addressing the widespread impact of skin conditions worldwide.
Key Highlights of the Resolution:
- Calls for the integration of skin health into universal health coverage strategies.
- Emphasises the need for training healthcare providers in the diagnosis and management of skin diseases.
- Urges improved access to treatments and diagnostics, particularly in underserved communities.
This resolution underscores the importance of addressing skin diseases not merely as cosmetic issues but as significant health concerns that warrant global attention. Skin diseases affect approximately one-third of the global population at some point in their lives. They are among the top 10 causes of disability, leading to physical discomfort, psychological distress, and social stigma.
WSP remains committed to supporting initiatives that align with this resolution, striving for a world where skin health is prioritised, and individuals affected by conditions like scabies receive the care and support they deserve.
