On 7 July, the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) adopted a draft resolution on human rights and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
This is the first ever HRC resolution dedicated to the plight of NTDs, and emphasises how these conditions are not only a public health challenge, but are also a human rights concern due to the associated inequality, discrimination, and social exclusion. For the elimination of scabies as a public health problem, this represents a major step forward.
The resolution stresses the work of States, UN entities, including the WHO, to scale up efforts to control, eliminate, or eradicate NTDs, including implementing the WHO roadmap for NTDS 2021-2030.
